RemoteCap — Privacy Policy

Last updated: 3 June 2026

In short: RemoteCap does not have permission to access the internet, runs no servers, and collects, stores, or shares no personal data. Your screen content and photos are processed on your phone and sent only to your own paired Wear OS watch. There are no ads, analytics, or trackers in this version.

RemoteCap ("the app") lets your Wear OS watch act as a wireless viewfinder and remote shutter for the camera app on your phone. This policy explains how the app handles information. It applies to the RemoteCap phone app and the RemoteCap watch app (package com.ckzhang.remotecap).

Data we collect

None. The app does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal or device data with us or any third party. The app does not request the INTERNET permission and contains no networking code, so it is technically incapable of sending your data off your devices to any server we operate.

How your content is handled

All transfers between your phone and watch use the Android Wear OS Data Layer, a system service provided by Google Play services that exchanges data directly between your own paired devices (over Bluetooth or your local Wi-Fi). RemoteCap itself has no backend.

Permissions

RemoteCap requests only the permissions needed for the features above. A detailed, plain-language explanation of each permission is on the Permissions page. In summary:

PermissionWhy
Accessibility serviceTo tap the camera shutter at a target you place, when triggered from the watch. It does not read your screen content or monitor what you do.
Screen capture (Media Projection)To mirror your screen to the watch as a live viewfinder. You approve a system dialog each time.
Photos & media (READ_MEDIA_IMAGES)To read the photo you just took so a thumbnail can be shown on the watch.
Display over other appsTo draw the draggable shutter target over your camera app.
Bluetooth / Notifications / VibrateDevice-to-device communication, the screen-capture notification, and watch feedback.

Data retention and deletion

Because the app collects and stores no personal data on any server, there is nothing for us to retain or delete. The only data the app stores on your phone is your saved shutter-target position (a screen coordinate), which is removed when you uninstall the app.

Children

RemoteCap is a general-purpose utility and is not directed at children. It collects no data from any user.

Future changes

This version of RemoteCap contains no advertising and no analytics. If a future version introduces advertising, analytics, or any feature that collects or transmits data, we will update this policy and the Google Play "Data safety" disclosure before that version is released, and describe exactly what is collected and why.
